The Green Wyvern Yachting Club was formed in 1947 to give youngsters a chance to learn to sail aboard traditional Broads Yachts. Over sixty years on, the mission remains the same and by now thousands of people have learned to sail in this way – many of them staying on the Norfolk Broads, others taking their skills and interests further afield.
The GWYC is now an RYA training centre and offers courses in boat handling skills and inland cruising through the RYA keelboat scheme. The purpose of this site is to record and illustrate the boats used by the Club to offer training.
All the GWYC boats are designed and built explicitly for sailing on the inlands waterways of the Norfolk Broads and have none of the complicated management or safety systems of offshore yachts. They are maintained, tested and inspected to the standards of the national Boat Safety Scheme.
